Hi, I'm Sophia
I am a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Zürich, Switzerland.
A few years back, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Switzerland wasn't part of our long-range plan. Like many expat relocations, it started with a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more substantial.
The initial few months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Daily tasks seemed more complex than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of learning on the job. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Built Island Plain Harbor
Much of the online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — pragmatic advice grounded in real life in Switzerland.
